Short answer: a full head takes 50 or 60 double ended dreads. Which one depends on how thick your own hair is.
The Quick Guide
- Fine to medium hair: 50 DE
- Thick hair: 60 DE
- Very thick hair: 60 DE plus an accent set of 10 or 20 DE
What DE Means
DE stands for double ended. One piece is a single long dread with two ends. It is folded in the middle and braided into one section of your own hair, so each piece gives you two dreads.
A set of 50 DE is 100 ends on your head. A set of 60 DE is 120.
This matters when you compare sets. Some shops count single ended pieces, some count double ended ones, and some sell small bundles. Always check what the number refers to.

| 60 DE extra full set | Full head, thick hair | from $290 |

Does Length Change the Number?
No. Length changes the look and the weight, not the count. My sets are about 22-24 inches long.
How Much Will It Weigh?
A full set of 50 DE weighs about 10.5-14.1 oz (300-400 g), depending on the set. The weight of each set is listed on its page.
How Long Does My Own Hair Need to Be?
At least 2-3 inches.
You Do Not Need to Count Bundles
Every full set here is one complete head at one price. You do not buy it in parts, and you do not have to guess how many packs to order. Pick your shade, pick 50 or 60, and you are done.
