Two sets can look the same in photos and be very different in price, weight and what you actually receive. Ask these eight questions before you order from any shop, mine included.
1. What Does a Full Head Cost?
Not one pack. The whole head. If a shop sells small bundles, find out how many a full head takes and multiply. Compare that number, not the price on the tile.
2. How Many Pieces, and Are They Double Ended?
One double ended (DE) dread gives you two ends. One single ended (SE) dread gives you one. 50 DE and 50 SE are not the same amount of hair.
3. How Much Does a Full Head Weigh?
You will wear it for weeks, so weight matters. Look for a number in ounces or grams for the whole head. If it is not listed, ask.
4. Are Length and Fiber Listed in Plain Numbers?
Length in inches. Fiber by name. "Premium quality" is not a specification.
5. What Comes in the Box?
Installation instructions, care instructions, a wash bag, shipping. Each one is either included or an extra cost. Add them up.
6. Can You Return It, or Only Exchange It?
A return and a store exchange are different things. Read the policy before you pay: how many days you have, and what condition the set has to be in.
7. When Does It Ship, and From Where?
Is it made to order or in stock? Does it ship from the United States or from abroad? Look for a shipping time in days.
8. Who Makes It, and Are the Photos Real?
Look for photos of the actual set, not only styled model shots. Check who stands behind the work and where you can read reviews.
